Building Link Popularity, How to Build Links
One of the toughest challenges in SEO is the consistent acquisition of high PR links. After you’ve taken care of internal optimization factors, most SEO consultants will tell you that consistent content development and your overall link profile are the next things you should worry about.
The reasons are quite simple for why you would be interested in link building. The search engines have developed their algorithms to be swayed by the overall popularity and quality of a web site as determined by other web sites that link to them.
Simply put, the more high quality backlinks that you can build to your site, the better of you’ll be.
“So how do I build links?”
Great question, and there a dozen ways to go about doing it. There are a few overall tenants though that you should be familiar with when you go to promote your web presence via link building. You should be aware of the context of the site linking to yours (relevance matters). Be sure to link on specific keyword phrases (anchor text) and link to both your home page and sub pages on your site.
Paid link building
Professional link building services are a dime a dozen, but some stand out above the rest due to their quality and follow-thru. Lots of sites will promise you hundreds of PR9 links and fail to produce any of them, leaving you hundreds of dollars out. One of the services I’ve used in the past is BacklinkBuild – they have a $299 product which builds 45 custom links to your site.
Blog Networks
Some link building services provide access to their blog networks, allowing you to post custom content (much like guest posting) across a wide variety of topic sites and blogs. The content issue remains, however services like LinkVana have combined a blog network with content creation and social bookmarking services. They have a 5 day trial to try out the system (just don’t expect results in 5 days). Their service is otherwise $147 per month, but you can post an UNLIMITED amount of links to their network.
Custom Link Building
If you can think of it, chances are there is a site out there to fill your link building needs. The question usually is, is it free to post links there, and is the site high quality enough (followed links, etc) to be worth your time to post there? Ideas for custom link building include forum commenting, blog commenting, article submission and blog guest posting. But establishing the necessary relationships can be a costly endeavor. The question becomes, is ranking highly in Google really worth the investment of your time, or would it be better to pay someone else to enact the proper behaviors for you?
